Matthew 27: 37-44 “Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ” In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.”
This is truly the most remarkable, selfless act in our history - for God to send down to Earth His only son to live among men and ultimately sacrifice himself so we could be forgiven of our sins is hard to comprehend. This part of scripture was never about Jesus “proving” that He was (is) the son of God, and therefore saving Himself from crucifixion. It is about spilling the blood of His mortal body, going through excruciating pain so that all men would have the chance to go to Heaven. This transaction of trading His blood and life in exchange for forgiveness of sin was required, and for the doubters and naysayers, just read on to Matthew 28, Jesus Has Risen!
No matter what challenges or obstacles I face in life, nothing comes close to what Jesus did for me on that cross. I haven’t always been in agreement with the Lord, nor have I followed all of His rules.
But He has blessed me more than I ever thought I deserved. At a time in my life when nothing more could go wrong, he sent me my own personal angel. This angel was custom made for me, perfect in every way. Anna, my wife, has shown me what it is like to be truly loved, just as Jesus always has. In some ways I feel as if I have also risen. It was a long and dark path that I was traveling. Wandering aimlessly, just waiting to be saved. I just didn’t realize that I already had.
Even when my father was taken from me at a young age, and I blamed Him, He always loved me. And those sins I committed were washed away long before I had even committed them. Jesus is only asking that we believe, have faith and He will provide, just like when rolled that stone away; HE IS RISEN!
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”. Matthew 28:20.
