Deuteronomy 4:9 Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.
The Israelites were a well cared for people--with very short memories. Enemies were bearing down on them leaving no escape. God rescued them. Sickness was killing them with no cure. God healed them. And this repeated multiple times because the Israelites did not really know their God. If they had chosen to remember and think about the last time God saved them from an impossible circumstance, they would have gotten to the Promised Land about 40 years sooner. If they knew Him, really knew Him, they would have known He would be faithful every time.
How many times do we do the same thing? God provided the money I needed to pay that bill, but what about this one? God healed me from that sickness, but this one is worse, so maybe He won't.
This verse says to "keep your soul diligently." Our soul is our mind, will and emotions. So keeping our soul is a choice we must make. God doesn't ever say to analyze the situation, or be sure and do your internet research, and then come to Him. He wants us to come in faith because we know his character.
