1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Any love and desire for worldly things can be attributed to a weakness of our love and desire for God and what He offers us as followers of Christ.

We can default to living lives with no purpose if we take what the world gives us as a poor but easy substitute to God and all the good that comes with following him or we can choose to focus our desire on loving Him more that the world so that we can have and share His love.

I am still constantly learning to have a stronger love and desire for God and what He offers and this verse is an excellent reminder that helps me to keep on track.
