Gen. 12:1-2 (ESV) Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing."
- God had called Abram to leave behind everything with the promise that God had better plans in mind.
- Abram was promised not only that he would father a great nation, that he would be blessed, and that his name would be great, but that the purpose of all of this was so that he would be a blessing to others.
- There are parallels to Jesus in that God asked Him to leave his place and position in heaven to fulfill their plan and Jesus willingly obeyed not only for His own greatness that was promised, but to bless those that would come after Him.
God has blessed me in SO many ways and sometimes it’s easy to get focused on and motivated by blessings rather than God’s goals for the blessings. I know God loves me, takes care of me, and is overwhelmingly generous to me but I really need to respond with more than just thankfulness. I need to actively look for ways to fulfill His plan THROUGH me and not just FOR me; using the resources He’s provided and the testimony of His goodness to further His kingdom.
